Modest Dressing Essentials ~ Tips for Skirts

So we are back to the Modest Dressing Essentials - a series dedicated to tips and insight into where to shop for modest items and then how to style them up or modest-fy items you already have that need restyling.

The aim of these videos and blog posts is to help you ladies on a practical level to adapt to the changes going on within your heart towards His standard of holiness including in how you dress.  Modesty does begin in the heart, and only God has the ability to change the heart, yet we must surrender and die daily - denying the flesh of the desires it has, and picking up our cross to follow Jesus. These videos are put together with the heart to empower you to have a wardrobe that reflects your desire to be modest-- because, we can't dress modest with immodest wardrobe choices.

Here are some examples of skirts I have purchased on the high street or online for my modest wardrobe. It can be challenging to find at times but it is possible and I hope this post encourages you!

At a wedding in winter, so I wore it with this textured off the shoulder jumper.

At a birthday dinner.

Most of my shopping is done online and this beautiful emerald green midi skirt, is one of my favourites in my wardrobe! It is SO elegant and can be worn in a number of ways. I purchased this skirt at  Choies - This online store has so many lovely and stylish midi skirts at affordable prices too! I also have it in a black and red, which is so perfect for styling up or down for various occasions.

Next - Most skirts from next tend to be decent in length and are good quality. Shop during the sales to grab yourself really good bargains, or shop in outlets.

FCUK- Another store that has good quality items, it is not everything from this store, would I wear. I do not go to FCUK in the highstreets, I tend to go to outlet stores which always offers great discounts.

ASOS- Personal favorite store at present, when it comes to midi skirts. Their skirts are so lovely, affordable, good quality and available in many prints.

Primark - On the odd occasion, Primark may surprise you. With the red pencil skirt, I wear a slip underneath, as the fabric is transparent in the light.

It is possible for the renewed mind to find modest skirts when shopping, because the Word begins to change your desires and makes your eyes gravitate towards more suitable items. It does not happen over night but the Holy Spirit really begins to show you ways to wear things, when you allow Him to be your counselor in all things. When I go into a shop to purchase an item, I automatically check to see if it is decent, in length and fit. Due to practicing-- seeking for modest items, I find them even in highstreet stores. If something is not long enough, I may put a skirt on top or underneath to complete the look. I love skirts! I much prefer them to dresses.

Being a modest lady, means having to be selective with your choices. Most high street stores are not trying to cater for the modest lady. We are not their 'target market', therefore the first thing you find, may not be for you, but exercising patience, will help. :)

There is this awesome website: http://www.modestskirts.co/ which has been put together by another modest fashion blogger that I follow. This site is dedicated to modest skirts. How great is that?! So it has information of different shops selling pretty skirts & where you can purchase them - all at affordable & reasonable prices!  Check it out & save to your tabs.

If you have any questions related to this post or have experienced issues while aiming to dress modest, please email me and I will see what tips I can share. More to come for the Modest Dressing Essentials series. Please Check out the 'Tips for Tops' on YouTube channel also.

With love,

  1. I loved the video! As I was watching and feeling convicted even more about some of the items in my closet, and even more about some of my attitudes and how I have allowed some wordly ideas into my heart and mind, I was feeling disappointed in myself and feeling guilty. I asked God to forgive me for that and for His Spirit to help me to take action and do what needs to be done to correct this area of my life for the future, and then you made the comment about God loving us regardless, and that this, ad with all holiness and purity and righteous living, is not to earn our salvation, but ad an outflow of His grace in our lives. Wow... that is just what I needed to hear! Thank you for this -- I was so encouraged!
    In Jesus,
    Alison

    1. Hi Alison, I only just saw your comment today, so please forgive my really delayed reply. Your comment really encouraged me - the fact you repented when you felt the conviction from His spirit rather than feeling so bad that you think you are no longer loved! He truly loves us and Fathers us in such a way so that we grow and mature for the kingdom. We grateful for His work in our lives and hearts. I pray you have not been discouraged in actively changing your wardrobe to complement the inner work He is doing. Yay, to life in Him. Grace and peace to you lady.
