Styling Culottes

I'm really pleased to be able to share this post with you all today. I have been meaning to talk about culottes for a while, as I always receive so many questions and complements about the ones I have and wear.

Culottes, are basically the word for 'shorts' in French, however they are slightly different to average shorts. I find that not many ladies take to culottes much, so you may not see them around as much, but honestly, if you search hard enough you will find plenty of lovely culottes to invest in.

I love the vintage touch to this item. That was the main reason I started wearing them again. When I was younger these were very big for my parents era, so it's not a new style. It's just recycled fashion from a time when clothes actually covered people's bodies!

You can find them that they do come in all different lengths, but I personally always go for the ones that fall on my knee or below, purely because I do not support showing my thighs.

Below are a number of outfit ideas with culottes, that I styled around for the summer time...for you ladies, who may want to get involved.

Why I like culottes:

~ They tend to look like a skirt, but are not, which is great as I can be active without indecent exposure.
~ They are so stylish and easy to wear.
~ They do tend to be very modest, as they are flowy & come in great lengths.
~ It totally has a vintage look to it and that is something I love a lot!

Modest-fy a One Shoulder Dress

I hope you are well and that you are enjoying your week so far. The London weather has been so much rain, in the middle of July! It means we can't wear those summer items we may desire to wear but nonetheless, we should give God thanks IN this time.

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].
(1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP)

Today's post is about how I modest-fy a one shoulder dress. Modest-fy was a word which I heard from my sister in Christ ~ ModelMeGirl ~ Check her out she is awesome in Him! Fashionably righteous!

So, I have many one shoulder items, because over the years I have liked them and preferred them over strapless tops. I personally find that I feel naked in strapless tops. Unless I have a jacket over it, or really really long hair to cover me up, but all in all, I know that Father does not desire for ME, to be in one.

I say this clearly, because I haven't had Him reveal to me that it's not for any other sister, yet as for me and Him, it's not something I am permitted to wear and I submit to that. One shoulder items on the other hand, have been okay for me to wear, but over the last 2 years, I have found myself convicted in my Spirit concerning some of them. Some are very low on the side or at the back and again Father makes it clear, He does not desire His temple ~me ~ exposed like that. I am exclusively His and need to preserve/cover myself for Him.

So at this point in my life, we (Father & I) have not ruled out all my one shoulder items, but I do ask Him many questions whenever I wear one, because I do sometimes feel a sense of nakedness in some of them.

I have to ask, and dress with Him, because I never want to sin against God, as I know that:

So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:17 AMP)

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (James 4:17 KJV)

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. (James 4:17 NLT)

So I have this red one shoulder dress, which I wore here. I was a bridesmaid for my gorgeous friend and sister in Christ. I had the privilege of styling her and the bridesmaids for the wedding and picked these one shoulder dresses, but I worked around the low side by applying a strapless top. On the day I was fine about it, as I even got really hot in the evening -- when dancing etc...However I was very aware that my side was out there, which I had to just not think about, otherwise I would have just not enjoyed the evening etc, but I was conscious about it, to myself, I knew me and Father would have to discuss this moving forward or next time I grabbed the dress out of my suitcase. [Small room stuggles -- I suitcase what I do not wear often]

On the weekend I was invited to a bridal shower for my friend and another sister in Christ. The theme was all red (if possible), I personally love themes and love to submit under the desired 'rules' as long as I do not have to compromise. Anywho, It was possible for me, as I had this red dress. I wanted to wear all red, as asked, rather than mix it up, so I started styling!

I didn't have complete peace about the one shoulder being worn as is, so I asked The Lord if I may ask one of my brothers.

... I asked, what the one shoulder looked like on ME and generally also, and it came up that it looked 'tense'. So although not all would agree with this, (tbh I'm not seeking for what the majority say or think, I simply want the truth, even if I look crazy or over the top-- for Jesus, let's do this!)....I personally felt in my Spirit that the exposure on one side, can be avoided! Rather than wearing something which is boarder line tense on me, I can just find other ways to wear it, or not wear it at all. It's just fabric, so it shouldn't really matter. My value and worth goes beyond a dress, what I mean is that, I am worth more than the dress, so if any item could potentially compromise the desires He has for me, and He reveals this to me, then I will pass, & re style.

I have a VLOG explaining this a bit further so watch out for it at the end.

Below is how I decided to wear the dress on the day. I felt SO much more at peace &; much more comfortable too. I know that dying to ourselves and carrying our cross is not a comfortable thing, yet I am so thankful that when I decide to submit to God and modest-fy items, I am not left with uncomfortable clothing, which looks frumpy. In my opinion, the way I styled the dress was better than the original design, because it's totally much more me. I love details, combination of textures and complex designs so it suited my personally in Him much more.

What about you?
- Do you have any convictions that God plainly shows you, 'Child this style of clothing, is not for you!'
- What do YOU do when He is gently speaking to your spirit?
- Do you submit and ASK Him for help on what to do?
- Do you even care what He has to say vs the majority?
- Where do you get your style inspirations from the world or from the King?

His love for us all, means He only wants the best for us. We have all experienced different things, in our lives so the cleaning up process to refine us and make us pure from the inside out, may look slightly different BUT, His heart remains the same. His children are precious in His sight, so valuable that He does not was us to ever devalue ourselves by dressing immodest, having a stinking attitude, having unforgiveness, lusting after people/ things and many other things this flesh can produce.
As we kill this flesh and put it under submission to Godly standards in our lives, He gets GREAT glory and recognition for the GREAT & Loving Father He is. Able to transform us all into the image of Christ, in every area of our lives.
Jesus is my personal stylist! He is my Counselor and gives me so much advice on what to wear and what not to wear. Do you know how special that makes me feel?! The Creator of this earth, nature, flowers and all things lovely, is MY personal Counselor. Ahhh, so beautiful!

Grace, peace and His love, be with you all.

Coral Dress Top

Here's an OOTD I posted on my IG @setapartstyle. I know that not all of you are on Facebook or Instagram so I try to update you, as often as possible. :)

For this particular look, I wore a pencil skirt with the dress top -- I personally call this a dress top and not just a dress because of the length. Although it is a few inches above the knee, I could foresee that when sitting down, walking in heels etc, my thighs would be exposed. I personally don't like to wear anything that is short and could expose my thighs, as that is not how my Father [God] has raised me in Him. He continues to encourage me to preserve my body (soul, and spirit) for Him and to remain exclusive for Him...I have been set apart for Him, and so have YOU!

I opted to wear this pencil skirt to have the extra length I wanted for this item. I really like the colour ~~ the coral is so bright and lovely. I don't have a particular name for this look, yet I really liked how this basket bag complemented it.

VLOG for this look is also available via YouTube: Set Apart Style. More videos available if you want to  Look Beyond The Surface of modest dressing and living set apart for Jesus. His grace makes it possible! -- and I thank Him for this.
